Excal is garbage. Burt is still useful, but it's expensive in terms of gil and time, so it's questionable to make one for the bottom of the barrel job (I could use that time/gil to RUN). If you already have one, or just like the aesthetics of PLD, definitely use it.
Not a bad guide. I'm not the most experienced paladin, but this looks like a good resource. On the hybrid builds, which Rua touched on a bit, I've been playing around with them for the past couple of weeks (melee hybrid dps with low DT plus Savage Blade). It's fun and well suited for low-level content. For higher items I wouldn't bother, the extra damage isn't worth the extra damage taken or HP loss. Even for a rune fencer, his dps won't always be a huge contribution, and even more so for a paladin.
Ochain is still very useful, I used him in wave 3 for super tanks as most of the dangerous stuff is physical WS from Volte. Just remember to switch shields if you get hit by dangerous casters, or hope your friends are quick and Silent. Also good for some ganks. I'm sure you can put these things on Priwen, but Ochain is still very good at reducing physical damage.

Finding Daurdabla would keep me away from Abyssea for a while, though I'd probably go find Ochain. He also wanted to see for himself how PLD could produce high-quality content without him. I think some new players are annoyed by the saying that "Ochain or don't bother in PLD" so encouraging them to try with visual examples and explanations seemed like the right thing to do.

I did the math now, and it should be possible to reduce Ochain's block level in 150 groups, revenge, with +30 skill (+15 neck and arms +15) and +10 block+. You can use Excalibur to get +10 block. But he could also wear a reinforced robe (+8) and then a ring (Thureous or +1 increased bird) or autonomous legs. And open a weapon slot for Burtgang.

Honestly, the biggest problem with Excal is that Savage Blade is a little OP right now. But the sword has good stats for PLD to try to do some damage. We're probably the most attacking job in the game and Excal has 60. And the upgrade is great when you're doing lower content.

OMG I love Rua guides. They really feel like "guides": full of information that is easy to digest and helps anyone make decisions wherever they are. Most other guides just say "use this item" without explaining what stats make the item useful. What if I can't find the product? What if I have a similar product, but I'm not sure if it's good or not?

Honestly, Ruau's videos helped me get back into FFXI in 2016 after a 3+ year hiatus. How you've set up your series of career guides and related content videos (units, signs, and general low-level or trust battles). It is very useful for those who are thinking of returning, as many job boards/guides are already out of date. I still take the occasional break from FFXI, but I can definitely count on Ruau's videos to get me back on track!

One thing that makes me wonder is what you said about nuclear weapons hostility at 17:20. What is your source for this? I know WS magic works like this (hostility is base damage before multipliers), but I've never heard of damage working the same way. I think I heard something about magic blasts having less enmity, but I'm not sure if that has to do with the magic blast itself or the magic blast in BLM (-20 enmity on magic blasts from work points)

Magic explosions in general (not just BLM) have greatly reduced hostility, but normal nukes have normal hostility generation. And magical blasts don't work as well as basic WS on that side. It's not a matter of dmg before scaling or anything, just a huge reduction in enemy generation from magic damage.

Martel also called me on this, he could have explained it better. I didn't know that Magic Bursts spawned reduced enmity until a few days ago.

Also my opinion on the addition of PLD. While Sakpata improved PLD's dps, it also improved the survivability of WAR, DRK, and other DDs (including Nyame instead of Sakpata) to the point that in 90% of the situations where PLD can use a combo set with DD , you. can use any DD with Sakpata or Nyame and don't use a "real" tank at all.
People recommend turtle armor, because they recommend armor for situations where PLD (and tanking in general) is really needed. You can use Neagling on Omen bosses, but you can also just use multiple DDs in a combo set on Omen bosses.
That has been the case for many years, there is almost no need for a tank, but it gives more security and flexibility in the initial setup.
